Lorde - 'Royals'

Just press play. This song requires no introduction. It was one of those rare moments where as soon as I heard it I thought 'YES, this is amazing' and then the rest of the song wasn't too bad either! It's got a good message behind it too as well I think; similar to something we were learning about at Mobilise '13. That our lives are so much bigger than ourselves and we don't need to keep harking after celebrity status or recognition or anything but we're called to live out our lives, however mundane that may be sometimes. That's what I take from the song anyway, probably not what she intended! Either way, I love that beat.

And we danced and did a few other things

This week's (or year's considering how infrequently I've been posting) song is 'And We Danced' by Macklemore. Genuinely got it on repeat right now, and at full volume too; let's just hope my neighbours are also big fans. The intro to this video is hilarious and then it starts and sucks you in and you can't help but dance and cry and laugh and have a really really really good time. Great to dance down the street to too 'cause I will not, I will not, give a damn who watches me. Epic toons.

Alt-J feat. Mountain Man - Buffalo

Over the last three months I have fallen in love with Alt-J. Initially the only song of theirs that I was a big fan of was Breezeblocks which I thought was phenomenal. Their other stuff smelt a bit whiffy to me at first but something about the album intrigued me and after a couple more listens I was superbly hooked. It's hard to pinpoint what's so great about these boys but their music has a definite mesmerising effect and I really haven't heard anything quite like it before.

Well anyway, I went to watch Silver Linings Playbook last night and found it thoroughly excellent. Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence both put in sterling performances and I was pretty much crying by the end. Half way through though there's a glorious moment when I recognised Joe Newman's unique vocals and realised I was listening to an Alt-J number while watching those two do their thing. It was a great combination and I can't recommend either this band or this film highly enough. Do both.
