Lorde - 'Royals'

Just press play. This song requires no introduction. It was one of those rare moments where as soon as I heard it I thought 'YES, this is amazing' and then the rest of the song wasn't too bad either! It's got a good message behind it too as well I think; similar to something we were learning about at Mobilise '13. That our lives are so much bigger than ourselves and we don't need to keep harking after celebrity status or recognition or anything but we're called to live out our lives, however mundane that may be sometimes. That's what I take from the song anyway, probably not what she intended! Either way, I love that beat.

And we danced and did a few other things

This week's (or year's considering how infrequently I've been posting) song is 'And We Danced' by Macklemore. Genuinely got it on repeat right now, and at full volume too; let's just hope my neighbours are also big fans. The intro to this video is hilarious and then it starts and sucks you in and you can't help but dance and cry and laugh and have a really really really good time. Great to dance down the street to too 'cause I will not, I will not, give a damn who watches me. Epic toons.

Alt-J feat. Mountain Man - Buffalo

Over the last three months I have fallen in love with Alt-J. Initially the only song of theirs that I was a big fan of was Breezeblocks which I thought was phenomenal. Their other stuff smelt a bit whiffy to me at first but something about the album intrigued me and after a couple more listens I was superbly hooked. It's hard to pinpoint what's so great about these boys but their music has a definite mesmerising effect and I really haven't heard anything quite like it before.

Well anyway, I went to watch Silver Linings Playbook last night and found it thoroughly excellent. Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence both put in sterling performances and I was pretty much crying by the end. Half way through though there's a glorious moment when I recognised Joe Newman's unique vocals and realised I was listening to an Alt-J number while watching those two do their thing. It was a great combination and I can't recommend either this band or this film highly enough. Do both.

Dena - Cash, Diamond Rings, Swimming Pools

If yesterday's tune was the song of the week then this track swoops up the prestigous and highly sought-after TTT Song of the Month Award for November '012. Many people think that her lyrics - which largely comprise of  the words cash, diamond rings and swimming pools - betray a lack of creative prowess. They're wrong. Dena knows what works and sticks to it and she's successfully carving out a little chunk of the niche music market for herself. This song will get stuck in your head and that will be a good thing. You're friends may not appreciate it initially they'll see the light one day. In the meantime, rock on.

The Other Tribe - Skirts

This song is pretty much the sole reason I started this little blog - it's amazing. I can't get it out of my head and I've got an overwhelming desire to share it with all you lovely people. As some guy from the Guardian put it, "These guys will make you want to paint your body neon and dance in a muddy field" and I feel that pretty much sums it up. They're a six-piece band from Bristol who pride themselves on their general genre defiance; you just can't pin them down. I dare you to not dance to this song; a fantastic collection of unique vocals and dynamic rhythm creates a truly sterling number. Get involved.

All aboard.

All aboard the tune tune train. This is a place for awesome music to be shared and enjoyed and shared again (and enjoyed again). I'm no music guru, I'm incredibly unmusical myself but I do enjoy appreciating other people's talents. As the name suggests there's gonne be some pretty banging tunes being blasted out around here and it's a train 'cause it's on the move like. So strap in and enjoy the ride.
